2001 Aldo Conterno, Barolo Vigna Cicala, Piemonte, Italy

Incredible wine – almost too good. It was served directly from the wine cabinet and we where all in the Wow-zone. Completely fruit crazy in a good way – with right in your face attack; marzipan, coconut, camphor and divine purity. With such a wine you immediately put up defence mechanisms and find it too much and not true to the traditional Barolo character. But when having finished analyzing you have to surrender to the wine – it’s simply stunning and drinks like it will never ever close down. On day two a tiny little fraction was left in the decanter and it just oozed away with untiring steroid fruit. Bravo!!!
