2004 Domaine Leroy, "Bourgogne", Burgundy, France

Sushi and red Burgundy is a fascinating combination. However the structure of this wine didn’t have the strength to provide the sufficient balance. The nose of this wine immediately took us all with storm and fascination, however analyzing it a bit further its floral pitch is for me too high. The components are; overall red berries, rubber, strawberry – but the problem is a note of sulphur, bringing the notes into an over perfumed stage and taking away the balance. The taste is very light – elegant, but with very little grip – I know it’s the character of the Pinot Noir grape, but there is almost no mid-palate at all for such a young wine. (89?)
